JANET
JANET IS A SCOTTISH ARTIST, SPECIALISING IN PAINTING SCOTTISH DANCERS.
JANET WAS AN ARTS AND CRAFTS TEACHER FOR MANY YEARS, TEACHING OTHERS HOW TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN CREATIVE TALENTS.
WITH HER FAMILY ALL GROWN UP, IT WAS A NATURAL PROGRESSION TO FOCUS ON DEVELOPING HER OWN WAY OF PAINTING AND SHE SPENT A NUMBER OF YEARS STUDYING WITH THE OPEN COLLEGE OF THE ARTS ( O.C.A. ) AND AT LEITH SCHOOL OF ART WHERE SHE CONCENTRATED MAINLY ON FIGURATIVE WORK..

WHILE WORKING ON AN EXTENDED STUDY ON THE THEME OF 'DANCE', WHEN STUDYING WITH THE O.C.A., JANET BEGAN EXPERIMENTING WITH CAPTURING THE MOVEMENT AND THINKING ABOUT HOW TO REPRESENT OUR OWN NATIONAL DANCING STYLE.
SHE NOW USES MIXED MEDIA AND VIBRANT COLOUR TO CAPTURE THE UNIQUE LOOK OF THE TARTAN AND THE EXUBERANT MOVEMENT OF THE DANCING. HER AIM IS TO BRING IMAGES OF SCOTTISH DANCING TO LIFE, AS SOMETHING WE ALL ENJOY, AND TO INVOKE A SENSE OF PRIDE AND NOSTALGIA WHILE PUTTING A MODERN TWIST ON THE SPECTACLE OF THESE ANCIENT TRADITIONAL DANCES.

HER PAINTINGS CAN BE SEEN IN MANY GALLERIES THROUGHOUT SCOTLAND AND HAVE BEEN SOLD INTERNATIONALLY.
SHE IS REGULARLY COMMISSIONED FOR PAINTINGS WITH A SPECIFIC TARTAN AND FOR WEDDING PAINTINGS.
HER PAINTINGS HAVE BEEN USED BY ST COLUMBA'S HOSPICE FOR CARDS AND CALENDARS AND BY THE ROYAL SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCING SOCIETY FOR CARDS AND TO ILLUSTRATE THEIR ANNUAL REVIEW.

ORIGINALLY FROM LANARKSHIRE, JANET NOW LIVES IN EAST LOTHIAN AND WORKS IN A STUDIO IN HER HOME.
